Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the dimensions and weight of a Sprigbox?

Sprigboxes are 3" cubes and weigh approx. 5oz +/- 10%.

Are Sprigboxes organic?

Whether your grown plants and herbs are "organic" will depend on how YOU grow them much more than the "organic" status of the seeds you start with. If you wish to grow an organic plant we recommend you avoid using pesticides on your Sprigbox. You can learn more at https://www.usda.gov/topics/organic. If you just add water, your plant will be very close to "organic", even though you probably won't get it certified. 😅 Because becoming certified to use the word organic in your marketing and packaging is an expensive and tedious process, here at Sprigbox we have left it to our customers to make the decision, although we hope to get our organic certification as we grow!

As mentioned above, we can't make any claims that our seeds are organic, but the following seed types have been procured as organic without obtaining a certification: Basil, Chili, Cilantro, Lavender, Oregano, Rosemary, Strawberry, and Sunflower.

Is a Sprigbox single-use or multi-use?

The quantity of the seeds that come with the Sprigbox are intended for one use. However, the wooden planter is definitely appropriate for multiple use. You could either get new seeds in the future or repurpose it for various decorative uses. Hope this helps.

Do the boxes provide drainage?

They do not provide drainage, with the point being that you don't need anything additional like a saucer. Our Sprigboxes are complete Urban Garden kits and all you need to do is just add water! You will see best results by just keeping the surface of the soil slightly moist.

How should I grow my Sprigbox for best results?

Just follow our super simple instructions here.

Do I have to re-pot my Sprigbox plants?

No, the plants do not require re-potting after they have grown. That being said, if you want them to grow beyond the size of a small houseplant, you can absolutely replant them into a larger container, however, this is not necessary.

Can I use tap water for my Sprigbox?

In general plants grow with tap water just fine. However, if you know that the tap water in your home is particularly hard, we highly recommend using another water source. Here is the order of how we would recommend to water the plants in order:

  1. Distilled water w/ fertilizer
  2. Water filtered via reverse osmosis
  3. Filtered water (think a Brita or similar)
  4. Tap water that has been sitting outside for 24 hours (chlorine evaporates over time and is one of the main reasons why tap water is not great for plants)
  5. Tap water (it's still better than having them die of thirst)

What is the right temperature for the water I use?

The recommended water temperature when watering plants is between around room temperature. That means 68 degrees Fahrenheit +/- 5 degrees. This avoids shocking the plant with water that is either too hot or too cold.

What is the best time of day to water my plants?

It is best to water your plants in the morning, when temperatures are cooler. This makes sure that less of the water that is intended for the plant will be lost to evaporation.

Can I grow my Sprigbox outdoors?

The Sprigboxes generally can be grown in any condition that supports plant sprouting. However, we would recommend to plant the seeds indoors and wait until the plant has become a little more mature until moving it outside. We recommend re-potting after around 3-6 months for optimal results. That would be a good time to move them outside.
